I grew up riding and showing on the Denver CHJA and A circuits. I rode all through college and after a career in the corporate world, decided to follow my passion. This led me to MD as a working student for a prominent eventing training program. I eventually found my way back to CO and the Roaring Fork Valley where I now work as the Assistant Trainer at Strang Ranch. I love coaching and helping foster a love of horses in all of my students. I am excited for another year as the VP of CWHJA and can’t wait to see how the organization grows!

Thank you for the opportunity to be part of the CWHJA Board. My daughter rides at Strang Ranch and goes to all the CWHJA shows. She is also part of the Roaring Fork Hounds Pony Club and a member of the Sopris Equestrian Team. I volunteer to help however I can with all three organizations and try to never miss an event. Our family lives in Carbondale and I am the VP of Sales at Sport Obermeyer, and have worked in the ski and outdoor industry for 22 years. We are so lucky to have an organization like CWHJA which gives riders an amazing opportunity to show here in our beautiful valley. I would love an opportunity to contribute to CHWJA’s future growth and success.

Liz Wood
Originally from New England, Liz has been riding for more than 30 years, including 15 years training in the mountains of Colorado. A resident of Eagle County, she transitioned her business to the Roaring Fork valley in 2021. With a focus on hunters, jumpers and equitation, Liz seeks to provide a positive learning environment and constructive feedback for children and adults. Her favorite aspect of riding is that it is a multi-generational sport allowing kids and adults to learn and grow together whether they are under 7 or 70 plus.

I’ve been riding and involved with horses since I was about 2 years old. I started riding English when I was 10. I attended a summer camp at Crystal Springs Ranch where Jacquelyn Tinsman was the trainer. I remember being very nervous about changing to the English discipline from Western but now I can’t imagine doing anything else! I am a 10th grade honor roll student. I currently attend Colorado Prep Academy online and also take classes at CMC through their concurrent enrollment program. I work every day on our family ranch. I help with maintenance, cleaning, haying, harrowing our outdoor arena, riding and caring for our horses and mules as well as keeping an eye on the horses that board at our ranch. My favorite way to spend time is at the ranch riding & grooming the horses. This past fall I started riding schooling horses at Strang Ranch to help better my riding skills and knowledge of all types of horses. I really enjoy those days. I have come to realize that my family is right; I’m happiest whenever I’m doing anything dealing with horses! My goals are to graduate high school with an Associate Degree or get as close as possible by getting all my gen eds completed prior to graduation so that I am able to focus on my career interests and be that much further ahead when starting my freshman year of college. At this point I’m interested in studying Equine Business and Equine massage although that is not set in stone as I find my interests change. The only thing I am certain of right now is that whatever I do will involve horses! I’m interested in being a junior board member because I enjoy being able to help others and hope to be more involved with our local CWHJA club.
