CWHJA Rated Hunter Divisions and Specifications
Walk/Trot – Height – single poles. This is an entry level division judging rider on position, control and attitude. Cantering will be penalized in jumping portion. No-judges are not allowed in this division.
Flower Power – Height – flower boxes. Riders can trot or canter the courses. Cross entry with Pre-Beginner Hunters is allowed. This is an entry level division judging rider on position, control and attitude. Trotting will not be penalized in jumping portion. No-judges are NOT allowed on the flat but will be allowed over fences at show Managment’s discretion.
Beginner Rider – Height – 18″-2′. No oxers. Points follow the rider. Riders in this division have not shown in any class where fences exceed 2’6″ at any CWHJA, CHJA or USEF recognized show during the 10 years immediately preceding the current show year. A rider may continue to show in this division until they have won six (6) classes over fences during the same show season. At this point, they may continue to show for year end points but may not return to the division the following year. This division shall be split by age should the entries warrant.
Baby Green Hunter – Height – 2’3″. Open to horses and ponies that have never shown in any class over fences exceeding 2’6″ in height at any CWHJA, CHJA or USEF recognized horse show. A horse that wins three (3) over fences in one year may remain in the division for year end points but loses its eligibility for the division the following year. A horse that competes over fences exceeding 2’6″ loses its eligibility immediately for the current year and any future years.
Low Children’s/Adult Amateur Hunter – Height 2’3″-2’6″. Open to horses and ponies shown by junior and adult amateur riders that have never shown over fences exceeding 2’6″ at any CWHJA, CHJA or USEF recognized horse show during the 10 years immediately preceding the current show season. A rider who shows over fences exceeding 2’6″ during the current show season will not be allowed to participate in any further classes in this division during the remainder of the show season but will still be eligible for a year end award that may result from points already accrued. Will not be split by age.
Pony Hunter – Heights – 2′-2’3″ or 2’6″-2’9″. Open to ponies ridden by junior riders. Ponies may jump either height (regardless of pony’s size) and must jump that same height throughout each horse show. Distances will be adjusted when necessary.
Evergreen Hunter – Height – 2’6″. Open to all riders of any age on horses or ponies. Distances will not be adjusted for ponies.
Low Hunter – Height 2’9″. Open to all riders of any age on horses or ponies. Distances will not be adjusted for ponies.
Children’s/Adult Amateur Hunter – Height 2’9″. Open to junior and adult amateur riders. This division will be split by age provided there are four (4) riders in each group. Distances will not be adjusted for ponies. Riders in this division may cross enter into the High/Low Junior/Amateur Hunter or the High/Low Hunter divisions at the same show.
High/Low Junior/Amateur Hunter – Height 2’9″-3′ or 3′-3’3″. Open to all junior and adult amateur riders. This division will not be split by age. This division will be judged on performance. Riders may jump at either height but must jump the same height in all classes in the division at each horse show. Ponies are eligible but distances and heights will not be adjusted.
High/Low Hunter – Height 2’9″-3′ or 3′-3’3″. No restrictions, open to all riders and horses. This division will be judged on performance. Riders may jump at either height but must jump the same height in all classes in the division at each horse show. Ponies are eligible but distances and heights will not be adjusted.
CWHJA Rated Jumper Divisions and Specifications
A horse may not span more than three (3) jumper divisions at each show.
.70m Jumper – Height 2’3″. Spreads not to exceed 2’9″. Open to all horses and riders. This division will be run as Table IV Sec.1.
.85m Jumper – Height 2’9″. Spreads not to exceed 3′. Open to all horses and riders.
Children’s/Adult Amateur Jumper – Height 2’9″. Spreads not to exceed 3′. Open to junior and adult amateur riders only. This division will not be split by age.
.90m Jumper – Height 2’11”. Spreads not to exceed 3’3″. Open to all horses and riders.
1.0m Jumper – Height 3’3″. Spreads not to exceed 3’6″. Open to all horses and riders.
1.10m Jumper – Height 3’7″. Spreads not to exceed 3’9″. Open to all horses and riders.
1.15m Jumper – Height 3’9″. Spreads not to exceed 4′”, triple bars to 4′”. Open to all horses and riders.
CWHJA Rated Equitation Divisions and Specifications
Pre-Beginner Equitation – Height – fences not to exceed 15″ at the center of the jump. Riders who have shown over fences exceeding 2′ in any CWHJA, CHJA or USEF recognized horse show is ineligible for this division. Fences may consist of crossrails or verticals and may incorporate gates and flower boxes. The flat class in this division is a walk/trot/canter class. Riders in this division may cross enter into the Beginner Hunter division at the same show. This division will be split by age if the entries warrant.
Long/Rusty Stirrup Equitation – Height 2′-2’3″. Riders who have shown over fences higher than 2’6″ at any CWHJA, CHJA or USEF recognized horse show are ineligible for this division.
Limit Equitation – Height 2’3″-2’6″, no combinations. Riders who have shown over 3′ at any CWHJA, CHJA or USEF recognized horse show within the preceding 10 years are ineligible for this division. Riders may show in this division until they have won six (6) classes over fences in this or any other equitation division (Pre-Beginner Equitation excluded). This division will not be split by age.
Intermediate Equitation – Height 2’9″. Riders who have shown over 3’3′ at any CWHJA, CHJA or USEF recognized horse show within the preceding 10 years are ineligible for this division. This division will be split by age if entries warrant.
Open Equitation – Height 3′-3’3″ This division will be split by age if entries warrant.
CWHJA Medal Classes
Riders who compete in at least one CWHJA medal class during the competition season will be eligible to compete in the Year End Finals at the last CWHJA show of the year, regardless of points of placings.
Pony Medal – Height 2′-2’3″ or 2’6″-2-9″. Courses may not include a combination. Open to junior riders only. Riders may compete at either height, regardless of size. One or more tests taken from USEF tests 1-9 should be incorporated into the initial course design. Further work offs may be called at the judge’s discretion.
Children’s/Adult Amateur Medal – Height 2’9″, a combination is recommended. Riders competing in this medal may not compete in the High/Low Junior/Amateur Medal at the same horse show. This class will be split by age providing there are four (4) competitors in each group. One or more tests taken from USEF tests 1-9 should be incorporated into the initial course design. Further work offs may be called at the judge’s discretion.
High/Low Junior/Adult Amateur Medal – Height 2’9″-3′ or 3′-3’3″, a combination is recommended. Riders may ride at either height. One or more tests taken from USEF tests 1-9 should be incorporated into the initial course design. Further work offs may be called at the judge’s discretion. Riders competing in this medal may not enter the Children’s/Adult Amateur Medal at the same show. This class will not be split by age.
